Chicago market for building and design technical assistance heats up

In coordination with the ComEd and Nicor Gas New Construction Service, the Energy Center has provided technical support for nearly 70 new construction and major renovation projects in Chicago and northern Illinois in the past year.

These projects comprise 7.5 million square feet and are expected to achieve an estimated 24 million kilowatt hours and 108,000 therms of annual energy savings.

Now in its fifth year, ComEd and Nicor Gas have increased the goals of the program and the number of projects it can support. In tandem, the Energy Center is expanding its ability to provide energy analysis and technical assistance to Illinois' commercial building sector.

Ben Heymer, a mechanical engineer with construction, design, and geothermal analysis experience, has joined the Energy Center's Chicago office and will help support the program.
